My Book
Two for You, One for Me
Two for You, One for Me is a heartfelt memoir that follows the extraordinary life of Anthony Hernández’s father, Richard Hernández, a young boy who grew up battling poverty and instability in the border towns of Arizona and Mexico during the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Raised by his mother, who struggled with alcoholism, Richard faced uncountable challenges as he survived life on the streets. A chance encounter with a compassionate man introduces him to the possibility of a stable, loving life, setting the stage for a profound transformation.
The story follows Richard’s journey as he is reunited with his extended family in Tucson in 1937 and transitions from a troubled childhood to early manhood. His experiences in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Army during World War II, including defending Boeing’s B-17 production in Seattle and preparing for overseas deployment, reflect his resilience and determination. After the war, Richard builds a life with his wife and family in Seattle, first working at Seattle City Light and later entering the residential real estate industry.
Two for You, One for Me explores themes of survival, family, opportunity, and the long-lasting effects of life choices. This inspiring memoir highlights one man’s determination to rise above his circumstances and create a meaningful life for himself and his loved ones.
