Wonderful read. Made me happy and sad simultaneously. A joylful yet poignant look at American history often overlooked by contemporary authors. I found myself rooting and cheering and at times crying for Richard. A very remarkable story.
Kris Meyerhis is a true story skirting on the American dream.
This "autobiography" of Richard which is smoothly edited by his son, the author Anthony Hernandez, rings very true to me. I was born in the same town 6 years later than Richard. Richard describes very accurately what it was like for thousands of children like him during the depression and World War 2 along the Mexican border. It describes the hunger, deprivation and humanity of those slightly better off. It highlights the efficacy of the CCC and early recruitment into the army for millions. It is the true odyssey of a boy to manhood and fatherhood through one of the most trying times in our history. It is a good read for anyone but especially for those interested in the social conditions and history of the time.

The central message of "Two for You, One for Me" resonates deeply: human willpower is not just an individual force—it’s an inherited, collective strength. As you immerse yourself in this story, it makes you grateful for what your ancestors did for you, and for the ways in which their sacrifices have molded your very existence.
This is a book that lingers in your mind long after you’ve turned the final page. A perfect read for anyone who believes in the unshakable power of the human spirit to face adversity, triumph, and wanting to leave a lasting legacy for those who follow us on this journey called life.
